HO Scale D&RGW Steam Generator Tenders 250 / 251 Kits & Accessories
This custom-designed HO scale 3D printed kit contains unpainted parts for one D&RGW Steam Generator Tender (250/251), based on period drawings. Paint masks are offered as a separate option, as masking tape may be a more natural use for some.
Built in 1953 from the tenders of L-105 class steam locomotives #3703 (250) & #3709 (251), using steam generators sourced from FTs. Equipped with 2 steam generators, plus a 15kw electrical generator / air compressor, and folio-listed capacity of 1200 gallons diesel / 8200 gallons water. Both repainted in 1967 into the single stripe scheme, retired in 1987.
- 250 was assigned to Salt Lake City, UT; had additional roof box vents, and added vents to the side doors in the 1967 repaint to address intake air issues, but never had a rear door with ventilation holes.
- 251 was assigned to Denver, CO; may have had rear door ventilation hole patterns from the initial shopping in 1953, as roof line and side door vents never fitted throughout service life. Front marker light brackets mounted approx. 22” lower than 250.
